QoS Access Router from Kentrox Helps Businesses
Migrate to VoIP
Flexible, multi-port router accommodates expansion, grows with network
Kentrox, a leading manufacturer of high-speed network access solutions, announced today the availability of the Q2400 QoS Access Router with a flexible, multi-port architecture and other key features that accommodate growing networks for small to medium-sized businesses.

The new Q2400 QoS router, with dual T1 and Ethernet WAN ports, gives businesses choices as they expand their networks and transition to Voice over IP (VoIP). Network access needs grow over time as businesses add new locations, install new applications, and deploy more users. Additional equipment to accommodate expansion is costly. The Q2400's flexible multiple port architecture enables network growth and application upgrades including:
- VoIP migration-Dual T1 lines with the Add/Drop feature on the second T1 enables businesses to run their traditional voice PBX traffic and VoIP traffic on the same T1 WAN line, enabling the use of both PSTN and VoIP. Companies can manage their voice traffic to meet their needs, including migration to newer VoIP services.
- Virtual LAN support-Support for up to eight VLANs enables businesses to virtually separate data traffic from voice traffic using virtual sub-nets, limiting data traffic that interferes with voice traffic.
- Low-cost redundancy and flexible backup-T1 with DSL or Ethernet as backup provides businesses with uninterrupted operations and communications. Ethernet WAN improves redundancy for mission-critical applications by providing multiple WAN interfaces to the Internet.
- Multiple connections-Multi-DLCI support enables access to multiple sites using one router for frame relay networks.
- Secure access-DMZ support enables setting of different user policies for standardizing security measures and public access across the network.
- Scaling networks -OSPF, a business quality routing protocol, simplifies management of larger router networks. As sites are added or changed, this protocol enables routers to update each other more efficiently than older protocols.
The Q-Series Q2400 access router integrates six networking solutions in one box-high-performance IP router, Quality of Service (QoS) appliance, Virtual Private Network (VPN) appliance, firewall, WAN access device, and Ethernet switch. With a web-styled graphical user interface (GUI), the Q2400 is easy to install, manage and maintain. Its QoS feature automatically protects VoIP call quality with pre-configured settings. It provides priority queuing and traffic shaping to ensure that critical applications, such as voice and video, take precedence over less critical applications.
"No matter which VoIP equipment you plug into the Q2400VoIP PBXs or gatewaysthe system will automatically prioritize voice, and provide traffic graphs to let you view and distribute bandwidth as you need it," explained Dan Murray, Vice President of Marketing for Kentrox.
Security Features Protect Network
The Q2400 offers additional security features that provide business class protection of communications and internal systems including:
- Intrusion Detection System that identifies and blocks common attacks,
- Stateful Packet Inspection (SPI) firewall protects the network,
- Secure Shell (SSH) for more secure remote management,
- Up to 100 VPN tunnels for encryption and authentication,
- Network Address Translation (NAT) for concealing internal LAN IP addresses.
Pricing and Availability
The Q2400 QoS Access Router is the latest in the Kentrox Q-Series family of QoS access routers. It is priced at $1,495 list, with an optional modem for dial-in management available for $200. The Q-Series family is available now through Kentrox authorized resellers.
